The new Legend of Zelda game for Wii U (and possibly for the NX) has been officially announced and named: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo spent pretty much the entirety of their stream earlier talking about this game, but here’s what you need to know.
The keyword for Breath of the Wild is “size”. As Nintendo promised when the game was first teased, the entirety of Hyrule is yours to explore; plains, forests, mountains, canyons, Link can explore it all. There’s a bigger emphasis on roughing it, with Link being able to hunt for and cook food to keep his stamina up, and free climb almost any tall structure. You can even use the environment to fight enemies by rolling boulders down cliffs or sniping bees’ nests with your bow. Judging from the trailer footage, it kind of looks like a cross between Zelda and Skyrim.
It’s also been announced that if you have a Wolf Link Amiibo, you can copy your hearts from Twilight Princess HD and summon a Wolf Link buddy in Breath of the Wild to help with fighting and hunting.
Obviously, no word on when the game will be done, but if you’re really impatient to give Nintendo your money, you can already pre-order the game on their website.
(Oh, and if anyone was still wondering, no, the new Link isn’t a girl. Sorry.)
